Description

MQ silicone resin is a relatively unique structure of silicone resin, which is a three-dimensional spherical structure of silicone grease generated by the co-hydrolysis-condensation reaction of silicone compounds containing tetrafunctional siloxane links (SiO4 /2, Q) and silicone compounds containing monofunctional siloxane links (R3SiO1/2, M). 

Its molar mass generally ranges from 1000 to 8000 g/mol, has a state from viscous fluid to solid powder, is hard and brittle, and has a wide range of glass transition temperature (Tg).

It is generally believed that MQ silicone resin is a two-layer structure of compact spheres, in which the core is Si-O chain-linked, high-density, caged SiO2 with a degree of polymerization of 15 to 50, and the shell is a lower-density R3SiO1/2 layer.

  • Reinforcing material

With MQ silicone resin as reinforcing agent, the liquid silicone rubber products have certain mechanical strength and high transmittance, and good fluidity of the rubber before vulcanization.

  • Release agent: 

For urethane rubber such as shoe sole. Improve the release durability performance of the release agent, for high adhesion resin (such as polyurethane, epoxy resin, etc.) the release effect is better.

  • Waterproof material for polish

Excellent additive to enhance the water-repellent properties of automotive and domestic care systems. The structure of polysiloxane determines the silicone resin has hydrophobic, its contact angle with water is greater than 90 ° and is used in waterproof materials.

Under the action of a platinum catalyst, a phenyl silicone resin-containing packaging material is synthesized with a silicone resin containing vinyl and high phenyl groups. The material is compatible and compatible. With good transparency, high hardness, and high refractive index, it can be used for LED packaging and lens production.

  • Silicone Pressure Sensitive Adhesive(SPSA)

How to produce MQ resin?

MQ silicone resin is often prepared by sol-gel method, where the main raw material of M link is Hexamethyldisiloxane (MM) or Trimethyl monochlorosilane, and the raw material of Q link is mainly sodium silicate or tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS).

Due to the different raw materials of Q-link, it is mainly divided into the tetraethyl orthosilicate method and sodium silicate method.

  • The product made by tetraethyl orthosilicate has better performance, but the cost is higher, which limits its application.
  • The raw material of sodium silicate method is cheap and easy to obtain, and the product performance is also better, which has a more significant market value.

Why use MQ silicone resin in silicone rubber?

Silicone rubber has a variety of excellent properties, but its mechanical properties such as compression strength and tear strength are poor and cannot meet the requirements of the process, so fillers need to be added to modify and strengthen it. MQ silicone resin as reinforcing filler can increase the strength of the rubber matrix, but does not make the system viscosity increase too fast and facilitate the subsequent operation, and the resulting vulcanization rubber transparency is better.

  • The organic part of MQ silicone resin can improve its compatibility with silicone rubber and play the role of adhesion enhancement.
  • Silicon oxygen chain can improve the mechanical strength, cohesive strength, peeling strength and high-temperature resistance of silicone rubber, and play a reinforcing role.

Condensed vulcanized silicone rubber

It is mainly composed of raw rubber containing vinyl, reinforcing filler, silicone oil crosslinker containing hydrogen and platinum catalyst.

Under the action of platinum catalyst, MQ resin containing vinyl group can chemically combine with raw rubber through hydrosilylation reaction with SiH crosslinker to form three-dimensional network structure for reinforcement. With the increase of MQ silicone resin content, the hardness, tensile strength, tear strength, adhesive property and crosslinking density of silicone rubber gradually increase to the optimum value. The reason is that MQ silicone resin has relatively small molecular weight, relatively high vinyl content, good compatibility and dispersion in silicone rubber, and chemical combination with silicone rubber. However, when the cross-linking density is too large, the distribution of cross-linking points is uneven, forming stress concentration, and the silicone rubber becomes hard and brittle. Under the effect of stress, the silicone rubber is easy to crack. The curing time is prolonged with the increase of MQ dosage, because MQ molecule is small and vinyl content is high, which can preferentially react with hydrogen silicone oil, thus delaying the reaction of silicon hydrogen and vinyl rubber until MQ is consumed. With the increase of MQ resin content, the dielectric constant of silicone rubber increases to the maximum and approaches equilibrium. However, excessive amounts of MQ resin and excessive cross-linking of silicone rubber limit the activity of polar groups, thus making the dielectric constant tend to be stable. However, the dielectric property of silicone resin is still lower than that of ordinary rubber.
